PACIFIC SEAFOOD
SUPPORTS INDUSTRY WATCHDOG ‘BETTER SEAFOOD BUREAU’
Safeguarding Seafood
Industry Against Fraud
Portland
,
Ore.
– August 5, 2008 – Pacific
Seafood, a family owned seafood company based in
Portland
,
Ore.
, continues their pledge to the quality of their products and the
integrity of the industry as a member of the Better Seafood Bureau (BSB).
Established in July of 2007 as an independent watchdog by the
National Fisheries Institute (NFI), the BSB is a vehicle for partners
in the seafood industry supply chain - restaurants, retail operators
and manufacturers - to report suppliers committing economic fraud.
“When you mislead your business partners, you are
ultimately misleading consumers,” said
Frank Dulcich, president and CEO of Pacific Seafood Group.
“The Better Seafood Bureau reinforces our core business
values and we look forward to maintaining a high level of quality
assurance and honest business practices throughout the entire seafood
industry.”
Members of the NFI pledge not to sell seafood that
is short weight or count, that has the wrong name or that has been
transshipped to avoid tariffs and duties.
Similar to the Better Business Bureau, the BSB allows members
of the NFI to hold each other accountable for any misleading or
fraudulent sales. While
not a consumer oriented program, the BSB assists the industry supply
chain in building and maintaining consumer confidence.
Performing all operations from dock to dinner table, Pacific
Seafood processes West Coast products—from Alaska to Mexico—and
owns and operates distribution facilities throughout Washington,
Oregon, California, Texas, Arizona, Nevada and Utah.
