CASE STUDY FEATURES PACIFIC SEAFOOD’S USE OF INNOVATIVE
RECYCLABLE PACKAGING
Portland, Ore. – May 2008
– Pacific
Seafood,
a family-owned seafood company based in
Portland
,
Ore.
, is
featured in a recent case study that presents the seafood
processor’s initiative to replace styrofoam packaging with
Georgia-Pacific’s recyclable Greenshield® corrugated boxes.
The Greenshield family of packaging solutions combines moisture
resistance with complete recyclability.
The shift to eco-friendly packaging is part of Pacific
Seafood’s company-wide sustainability initiative.
“Pacific
Seafood is committed to reducing waste in order to sustain our
resources, recognize the demand of our customers and improve our
overall environmental impact,” said
Frank Dulcich, president and CEO of Pacific Seafood Group. “We’re
honored to be a part of this case study and hope it will result in
continued positive change in the area of sustainability.”
This
initiative is one of many that Pacific Seafood has underway to reduce
its carbon footprint. The
company recently began supplying its seafood waste by-product to be
processed into fish-based organic fertilizer products, an initiative
that will save millions of pounds of by-product annually from entering
the waste management system in the
U.S.
Pacific Seafood also
encourages customers to take less frequent shipments with more supply,
thus limiting trucks on the road.
In addition, the company has proactively taken part in
studies to evaluate its carbon footprint and determine how to best
utilize environmental resources to ensure a sustainable seafood
supply.
Performing all operations from dock to dinner table,
Pacific Seafood processes
West Coast products—from Alaska to Mexico—and owns and operates
distribution facilities throughout Washington, Oregon, California,
Texas, Arizona, Nevada and Utah.
