Pacific Seafood CSR Report 2023

13 SUSTAINABLE SEAFOOD ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY VALUE CREATION AND QUALITY SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITIES SUPPORTING OUR TEAM MEMBERS Black Brant Study Eelgrass Study Pacific Seafood supports a third-party research study that concluded six years of research on Black Brants, a small goose, to understand how oyster farms impact these coastal birds. Research found oyster farms have a positive impact on the bay and provide better opportunities for the geese to get food and provide protection from hunters. Pacific Seafood is in the final year of a six-year research study on eelgrass in California. It’s an important plant species for salmon and birds. Third-party research shows interactions with oyster farms have a positive impact on preventing solar desiccation and help expand areas the eelgrass can grow into. We are in the beginning stages of conducting a similar study in Oregon. 4-Star BAP Certifications Aquaculture Dive Team Supported Studies Pacific Seafood proudly offers 4-star BAP (Best Aquaculture Practices) certified oysters and 4-star BAP certified steelhead. In 2018, Pacific Seafood became the first and only company to offer 4-star BAP oysters. In 2021, Pacific Seafood continued to expand the highest standards of aquaculture practices as the first company to offer 4-star BAP-certified steelhead. Our steelhead are fed BAP-certified feed that mimics a wild steelhead’s diet. Our feed blend uses fish proteins from fish bones, skin, and shells to allow for maximum use of the fish. Thanks to the continuous efforts of our Dive Team, Pacific Seafood has effectively prevented net pen escapes at our aquaculture facilities. Net pen escapes can present risks to the species and the natural environment. Along with 24-hour underwater video surveillance, our Dive Team works around the clock to check pen structures, make repairs, and monitor fish health. 2018 2021 4-Star BAP Certified Oysters 4-Star BAP Certified Steelhead
