Pacific Seafood CSR Report 2018

When Pacific Seafood was founded more than 75 years ago, it was my family’s goal to deliver the freshest, highest-quality, sustainable seafood to our customers. Today our commitment remains unchanged and stronger than ever. In accordance with our company philosophy, “Consistently doing your best, and always striving to do better,” we challenge ourselves to find new ways to be better stewards of the environment and our communities. For example, in 2018 Pacific Seafood become the first and ONLY company in the world certified to offer BAP (Best Aquaculture Practices) four-star oysters, the most sustainable oysters available on the market. We also collaborated with the NOAA Fisheries Science Centers, the Regional Fishery Councils, Department of Ecology, Department of Fish and Wildlife, individual states, and the NOAA Fisheries Policy Division to ensure our fisheries are robust and our stocks are sustainable long into the future. In addition, our strong aquaculture program helped to meet global seafood demand, while keeping wild fisheries healthy and stocked, allowing seafood resources to thrive for generations. We are actively involved with the Marine Stewardship Council in the revitalization of the West Coast Groundfish Fishery, and continue to support efforts to certify California Pink shrimp and Texas Gulf shrimp fisheries. In August we re-opened our Warrenton location, which burned down in 2013, with a new state-of-the art processing facility, and it is one of my proudest moments to date here at Pacific Seafood. We invested significantly in this new operation to make sure that Oregon’s seafood industry will be stronger than ever and provide a market for up to 70 independent commercial fishing vessels to deliver their catch. But, I’m hard pressed to think of a bigger achievement than being one of the 62 team members who stayed with us since the fire. It was truly an honor to recognize many of these team members at the grand opening ceremony. I invite you to learn more about our commitment to sustainability, food safety, the environment, and our communities by reading what follows in our second annual Corporate Social Responsibility Report.
