The Pacific Seafood Story Environment 60 Sustainability Quality Assurance Communities Team Members What’s New? 2020 I3 Challenge Winner Emily Koch was the intern selected as the winner of the 2020 I3 challenge for her focus on how to best standardize our chemical management system in a sustainable and cost-effective manner, while also supporting waste reduction and environmental conservation efforts. Her project entailed a massive data collection and analysis across multiple facilities to standardize our practices. Emily developed best practices to be used company-wide focusing on replacing chemicals with less toxic, but just as effective options when possible, install automated wall- mounted sanitizing stations, reducing order frequency, and tote reuse and recycle. Through these efforts Emily found ways to reduce 5,000 pounds of waste and 5 tons of C02 annually from just one chemical vendor. Emily’s internship was in partnership with the Oregon Applied Sustainability Experience which connects university students with various businesses across Oregon state. As the winner of the I3 Challenge, Emily was offered a full-time position at Pacific Seafood. Emily found ways to reduce 5,000 lbs of waste 5 tons of CO 2 &
