Pacific Seafood enters Alliance Agreement with Ashford University

Jul 22, 2011

Corporate University is Awarded Accreditation Status

Portland, Ore. – July 22, 2011 – Pacific Seafood has much to celebrate in this year that marks the family-owned business’ 70 years of providing fresh and frozen seafood for America’s dinner tables. Over the past seven decades the company has grown from its small, fresh seafood retail beginnings in downtown Portland, Ore. to become one of the most successful vertically integrated processing and distribution companies with over 18 processing plants, 11 distribution facilities, aquaculture sites, and retail facilities throughout the U.S. and British Columbia.

The company’s growth, according to president and CEO, Frank Dulcich, is attributed to their customer service and dedication to the stewardship of the resource, as well as the value placed on the organization’s culture and its team members. Hence the creation of a corporate university which provides a unique approach to training that reinforces the company culture while developing stronger leaders. Pacific Seafood University is headed by the company’s director of training and development, Drew Jacobs who says, "The process of creating a corporate university that meets the quality and standards to offer college credits has been an eight year project." Ashford University, an academic institution owned by Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI), announced an alliance agreement with Pacific Seafood Group that will provide Pacific Seafood team members with an opportunity to advance their educations at Ashford University. The new agreement will make Ashford University degrees more affordable for Pacific Seafood team members by offering fee waivers for costs associated with attending the university and offering college credits for the corporate university course work. Pacific Seafood University offers over 600 e-learning classes including a management training suite, career path planning and product knowledge courses on every specie that is part of the Pacific product line, as well as over 30 live leadership classes taught by Pacific’s in house training and development team. "At Pacific Seafood, people are our most important asset and we have a long tradition of investing in our team. Finding the right academic partner was important to the long term development of our team members as we believe they are worthy of the best that is out there," said Drew Jacobs.

”Ashford provides our team members a quality education while leveraging our internal training programs for college credit," Jacobs added. "The character and quality of Ashford’s administrators and instructors complements our commitment as a company, making them the right choice for us. This is a big win for Pacific Seafood and an important part in retaining our people and continuing to move them forward in their careers.“
