22 SUSTAINABLE SEAFOOD ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY VALUE CREATION AND QUALITY SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITIES SUPPORTING OUR TEAM MEMBERS EPA AWARD Pacific Seafood was honored to be recognized with the EPA’s 2023 Regional Pollution Prevention Award for our pollution prevention successes and practices that exemplify environmental excellence and innovation. In coordination with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality’s Oregon Applied Sustainability Experience program, and Pacific Seafood’s internship program, we were recognized for our work on chemical reduction solutions and water conservation implemented at several Pacific Seafood facilities. Interns who worked on these initiatives were brought on full time to carry on the good work. Water Conservation Chemical Reduction 330,000 Saved more than GALLONS OF WATER ANNUALLY Six water conservation interns working across our shrimp processing facilities were able to identify water reduction opportunities that saved more than 330,000 gallons of water annually. See page 43 for more on our internship program. One Pacific Seafood intern identified a simple solution to an ongoing problem. He incorporated wedges under chemical drums to reduce chemical waste. This addressed the problem of a small residual volume of chemical going unused by maximizing the efficacy of the pump dispensers.
